“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

We’ve all had our heart broken in some way—maybe by disappointment, fear, shame, rejection, or ridicule. At times, you may even feel this heartache in your ministry.

But never forget that God cares about your pain. He hurts and weeps with you.

In fact, it is in your pain that God is closest to you, whether you realize it or not.

The Bible says in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (NIV). How does he do that? By giving us a heart transplant.

For the guilty heart, God wants to give you a heart that’s forgiven.

For the resentful heart, God wants to give you a heart that’s full of peace.

For the anxious heart, God wants to give you a heart that’s confident.

For the lonely heart, God wants to give you a heart full of love.

For the bitter and angry heart, God wants to give you a heart that is forgiving, loving, and generous instead.

God wants to give you a heart transplant and set you free.

Why do we need freedom? Because we’re all bound to the expectations of other people. We’re tied to past memories, future fears, current pressure, the opinions of society, and so on.

We must stop limiting God! We can’t imagine how much he wants to do with our lives. Open your heart to him, and let him transplant it for his own.
